LANGUAGE VERSIONS
GAMEPLAY & PROGRESSION
Leveling, farming, acquiring items, building account power – it all requires real effort.
The value of items rises naturally from rarity, not from artificial drop spam.
Questing progression, classic horse system progression and skill progression remain original, including time lockers on books, soul stones, biologist quests and horse missions.
CORE MECHANICS AND SYSTEM ADJUSTMENTS
- Fishing unlocked from level 30
- Herbalism and potion brewing added
- Mining has been replaced by Gathering skill which increases effectiveness of both mining and herbalism
- Leadership bonuses are rebalanced and polished
- Polymorph bonuses have been adjusted
- Sprint skill is available from level 1
CRAFTING
A new NPC, Heuk-Young, has appeared in Map1. She can craft Item Enchant, Item Reinforcement, and Blessing Marbles.
Item Enchant and Item Reinforcement Permits can be obtained from Metins, Bosses, and Chests found across the world maps.
The Enchanted Gem can be crafted from Magic Dust, which is obtained by refining Spirit Stones at the Alchemist.
Soon will reward you with Parchment in exchange for Skill Books, Books of Forgetfulness, or Recipes.
At the Storekeeper, you can exchange any upgrading items for Crafting Materials. These materials are used to expand your horse saddlebags or to purchase Lockpicks for special purposes.
Thief Gloves and Experience Rings dropped from Metins and bosses are non-tradable. However, Nakajima in Map2 offers an exchange service that allows you to convert them into tradable versions with adjusted durations.
Exchange rules:
- 3× 1-hour Experience Rings → 1× 30-minute tradable ring
- 2× 2-hour Thief Gloves → 1× 1-hour tradable glove
Additionally:
- 2× Thief Gloves can be exchanged for a 30-use glove,
- Each charge is consumed when destroying a Metin stone or killing a boss.
This system keeps drops valuable while preventing market inflation and preserving oldschool balance.
HERBALISM
Upon reaching level 15, you can complete a quest for Baek-Go, unlocking access to his store where you can purchase the Herbalist's Knife.
From that moment, you'll be able to gather herbs that appear across all maps starting from Map1. To brew potions, you must first learn each recipe. Some recipes can be acquired from NPCs, others are granted as quest rewards, and the rarest ones can be found in chests, boss drops, or metin stones.
MAP CHESTS
Every map, starting from Map1, contains several locations where Loot Chests can be found. Each chest can be opened once every hour.
Possible rewards include herbs, equipment, yang, experience, and occasionally rare or valuable items.
However, be cautious - if you're unlucky, the chest may poison you instead!
Opening a chest takes a few seconds and will be interrupted if you take damage during the process.
Lockpicks can be crafted by Shabby Pedestrian and are required to open map chests.
DEMON TOWER
The legendary Demon Tower returns as the only dungeon in MT2K9, staying true to the spirit of the original Metin2 experience - challenging, rewarding, and built for true adventurers.
While the structure and progression remain faithful to the classic version, a few small adjustments have been introduced for better balance and accessibility.
You can enter the tower a limited number of times per day, with limits resetting daily at 5:00 CET:
If your entry limit is reached, you can still access the dungeon by purchasing a Demonic Key from the Demon Tower Guard.
The key costs a combination of Parchment, Magic Dust, Crafting Materials, and a small amount of Yang.
The Demonic Key is non-tradable, ensuring fairness and preserving the integrity of oldschool progression.
CURSES
A mysterious debuff known as the Temple Curse affects all who enter the Hwang Temple.
While under its influence, players will miss most of their attacks against monsters and all attacks against Metin stones within the temple.
The only way to lift this curse is by wearing the Sabah Mask.
To obtain it, players must complete a special quest:
While hunting Esoterics in Orc Valley, you may acquire a Wanted Poster.
Using it will begin a unique mission to track down Nabira, a wanted esoteric hiding somewhere in the valley.
When found, Nabira will ask for a favor and upon fulfilling his request, he will reward you with the Sabah Mask.
The Sabah Mask can be activated for 2 hours, completely nullifying the effects of the Temple Curse inside Hwang Temple.
Additional masks can be purchased from Nabira or obtained as drop from monsters within the temple itself.
A feature only true Metin veterans will remember - the Monkey Dungeon Curse returns to MT2K9.
When spending at least one hour inside any of the Monkey Dungeons, a mysterious curse may strike, teleporting you back to Map1 and temporarily transforming your character into a monkey for several minutes.
To protect yourself from this curse, you must consume a special Herb, obtained from the Monkey Dungeon Boss. Each dungeon - Easy, Medium, and Hard - has its own unique herb variant.
Upon consuming an herb, you gain 2 hours of protection from the Monkey Curse, allowing you to safely continue your adventure in the dungeon without interruption.

PROFESSIONS AND SKILLS
Skills and professions have been carefully rebalanced and subtly modernized to provide smoother progression and a refreshed gameplay experience - all while preserving the authentic oldschool MT2K9 identity.

The skill can be upgraded to level 2 by reading the Art of Combo, Combo Master Book, and Combo Mastery Book.
Fishing becomes available at level 30 and can only be performed on the Map1 area.
To begin this activity, you must first complete a short quest given by your old friend, the Fisherman.

The former HP Regeneration bonus has been replaced with a far more practical attribute - Magic Damage Against Monsters, offering improved effectiveness in both PvE combat and general progression.
The Gathering skill has replaced the traditional mining system. In addition to mining Ore Veins, it also enhances your herb collecting efficiency.
You can develop this skill by reading the Gathering Manual. At its highest level, it grants up to an 11% chance to successfully mine ore or pick a flower.
The Herbalist's Knife, much like the Pickaxe, can be upgraded. Each successful herb gathering grants experience points, and once enough are accumulated, you'll be able to upgrade your knife to improve its effectiveness.
The Sprint skill is available to all characters from the very beginning.
By toggling the Shift key, your movement speed increases up to 150 (with no limit while mounted).
The skill consumes Stamina, and once it is fully depleted, Sprint will automatically deactivate, returning your movement speed to its base value. After regenerating at least 100 Stamina, the skill can be reactivated.
Two new bonuses - Max Stamina and Stamina Regeneration - have been introduced to further enhance this mechanic.
The Polymorph skill has been slightly reworked. Its base duration is now 10 minutes, increasing with each skill level.
Damage values have also been adjusted for better balance and consistency.
The skill can be developed using Standard, Advanced, and Master Polymorph Books.
Horsemanship missions have been reworked to provide smoother progression and a more consistent gameplay experience. The maximum horse level is now 21.
Starting at level 25, you can begin the first horse quest with the Stable Boy, who will ask you to defeat 20 Savage Archers within 30 minutes. You must have a Horse Medal in your inventory to start the quest.
After completing the first mission, you'll need to wait 12 hours to receive the Horse Picture, which costs 100,000 Yang. Once obtained, you can immediately begin the next mission to start leveling your horse.
Missions 2–10 can be started 18 hours after completing the previous one.
Missions 12–20 can be started 21 hours after completing the previous one.
Early missions involve riding to marked locations on the map, while later ones require defeating specific monsters while mounted.
If you unmount during a mission, it will automatically fail - but you can restart it immediately without any cooldown.
Each mission requires one Horse Medal, which is only consumed upon successful completion.
The War Horse mission requires you to defeat 100 Scorpion Archers or Snake Archers within 30 minutes.
This mission can be completed while in a party, but you must be the party leader for the progress to count.
The Military Horse mission requires you to defeat 300 Demon Archers within 30 minutes.
It can also be completed in a party, but you must once again be the party leader for your progress to count.
Horse Taming Manuals and Horse Riding Manuals increase the success rate of summoning your horse, making mounted combat and travel more reliable.
Horse Saddlebags become available after obtaining the Horse.
A portion of the storage slots will be unlocked immediately, while additional rows can be unlocked progressively using Crafting Materials and Horse Medals.
Each new row requires a higher character level to access, rewarding long-term progression and encouraging continued development of both rider and mount.
Professions
Upon reaching level 5, your character will earn the title of skill adept. Each class has two unique professions to choose from.
You will learn from trainers located in the first village.
Achieving the M skill rank is possible by allocating Skill Points, which are earned with each level gained (1 level = 1 point).
Training a single skill to Master (M) requires 17 points.
If you fail to achieve mastery, you can reset the skill to recover all allocated points.
Up to level 30, you may reset all skills at the Old Lady and freely choose a new profession.
Individual skills can also be reset using a Book of Forgetfulness or a Skill Reversal Scroll.
Skills from rank M to rank G are developed by reading the corresponding Skill Books.
Using a Hermit's Advice guarantees a 100% success rate when reading a book.
Each skill development attempt triggers a cooldown period before the next can begin. This delay can be removed using an Exorcism Scroll.
The higher the skill level, the more books will be required to progress further.
Warrior Body
Focused on physical strength and durability. Body Warriors specialize in close-range combat, high damage output, strong attack speed scaling, and reliable sustained DPS. Ideal for aggressive frontline play and direct melee engagements.
Changes:
Berserk does not increase damage taken from level G1.
Warrior Mental
Defensive frontline specialization with strong resistance, high survivability, and powerful single-hit physical blows. Mental Warriors excel in tanking, controlling space, and outlasting opponents through heavy armor and high defensive scaling.
Changes:
Strong Body does not reduce movement speed.
Strong Body additionally enhances Attack Value (PvM).
Ninja Dagger
Fast burst damage assassin specializing in close-range critical hits. Dagger Ninjas rely on high mobility, rapid attack sequences, and precision strikes to eliminate targets quickly before they can react. Perfect for single-target pressure and hit-and-run engagements.

Bloodlust grants an additional attack value after using the Ambush skill. Can stack up to 2x.
The Stealth skill animation has been edited, allowing the character to hide immediately without stopping.
Ninja Archer
Long-range damage dealer focused on precision and control. Archer Ninjas excel at kiting, zoning and sustained ranged DPS, striking targets safely from distance and applying pressure without direct melee exposure. Ideal for tactical positioning and battlefield control.
Changes:
The Fire Arrow skill can now set enemies on fire and has a chance to stun (AoE).
The Arrow Shower skill has been replaced by Spark skill.
Additionally, the archer can now shoot at up to three targets simultaneously (five with fully developed Combo skill).
When attacking a boss or metin stone on horse, two shots are fired (the second shot deals 50% damage).
Sura Weapon
Offensive magic swordsman combining melee combat with high burst spell damage. Weapon Suras specialize in strong hybrid scaling, armor penetration and aggressive magic-based finishing attacks. Ideal for players who want high pressure damage with controlled risk in close combat.
Changes:
Enchanted Blade lifesteal is reduced to 10% at P level and is giving you more attack power at lower level (scales better in early game).
Sura Black Magic
Magic-based offensive specialization focused on powerful spell damage, strong damage over time, armor break effects and dangerous burst potential from range. Black Magic Sura weakens enemies, penetrates defenses and eliminates targets through spell pressure rather than melee engagement. Ideal for players who prefer controlling fights with magic and killing opponents before they can even get close.
Changes:
Fiery Spirit attacks selected target.
Dark Protection additionally enhances Attack Value (PvM).
Shaman Dragon
Support caster focused on offensive magical buffs and ranged spell pressure. Dragon Shamans enhance allied damage output, boost attack strength, and combine supportive skills with consistent ranged magic attacks. Ideal for coordinated group play, increasing overall team DPS and enabling faster PvE progression.

Shaman Healer
Support specialization centered on defensive buffs, healing support and survivability enhancement. Healing Shamans reduce incoming damage, strengthen allies' defenses, stabilize fights and extend survivability in both PvP and PvE environments. Ideal for players who prefer sustaining their group, outlasting opponents and controlling the flow of battle through defensive utility.
Changes:
Attack Up skill grants additional magic damage (general, and PvM flat + %).
(flat damage value and PvM magic bonus is restricted for shamans only)
Cure skill provides a shield that absorbs damage dealt by monsters.
Buffs used on other players are 75% as effective.
Biologist Missions
One of the most iconic questlines in the world of MT2K9. Earn the Biologist's trust, and he will assign you increasingly demanding research tasks. Be warned - the Biologist accepts only flawless specimens of the items he requests. You can improve your chances of successful analysis by using a Research Elixir, which also shortens the waiting period between submissions.

Trading
Offline Shops allow players to continue selling their items even after logging out. Once set up, your shop remains active on the map, visible to other players, and continues to generate sales while you're offline. You can freely manage prices, add or remove items before confirming the shop, and collect earned Yang the next time you log in. Offline trading ensures a stable, player-driven economy without requiring constant in-game presence.
If your Offline Shop expires, it will automatically close. When reopening it, you can load your previous shop settings to restore items and prices instantly.
In addition to offline trading, you can also open a Classic Online Shop, where your character transforms into a merchant just like in the original Metin2. This method offers key advantages - no sales tax and no expiration time - your shop will remain open as long as your character stays online.
Some shop slots are initially locked and can be unlocked using Wooden Keys, which can be obtained from Metins and Bosses.
The Item Search allows you to quickly locate desired items across all active player shops within a certain distance. You can open the Item Search window at any time by pressing F5. Once a category is selected, all nearby shops containing the searched items will be highlighted with a blue arrow. After you open a highlighted shop, its arrow will turn orange, indicating that you've already checked that shop. Additionally, you can right-click a shop's name to mark it in blue, making it easy to locate later. This feature makes trading faster, smarter, and more organized - helping players navigate the market efficiently without missing valuable opportunities.
Equipment Changes
Weapon statistics have been adjusted to improve overall balance and diversity. These changes ensure that multiple weapon types remain viable choices, rather than creating a meta where everyone exclusively uses FMS or RIB.
Level 70 weapons now have random built-in bonuses: Strong Against Bosses, Monsters or Half Humans. Each weapon now offers distinct advantages, encouraging experimentation and varied playstyles.
Jewelry Rebalance
Jewelry items have been reworked with new, more practical bonuses, ensuring that every player can find equipment that fits their build and combat style.

Spirit Stones
In MT2K9, true power comes from effort and knowledge, not shortcuts. As you explore the world, you'll encounter Spirit Stones - rare, valuable artifacts that can be socketed into weapons or armor to grant unique bonuses. They play a vital role in oldschool progression, providing a meaningful way to strengthen your character without breaking balance.
The Alchemist is also interested in Spirit Stones and will gladly trade for any you wish to exchange.

Each upgrade level increases the stone's power but also carries a risk of failure, true to oldschool mechanics.
INVENTORY
The Inventory has been improved with several quality-of-life features while keeping the oldschool structure intact.
A Stack & Sort button is available in the top-right corner of the inventory window, allowing you to instantly organize and combine all stackable items.
By holding Shift and clicking on any stack of items, you can split it into a chosen number of stacks with a chosen quantity of items.
The Depot (warehouse) includes the same Stack & Sort functionality.
The Depot starts with one page unlocked by default. To unlock the second page, you must complete a delivery mission for the Storekeeper. He will ask you to deliver a package to Map2 - but be careful:
- Your movement speed is reduced,
- You cannot mount a horse,
- The path is filled with dangerous Savages waiting to ambush you.
The third Depot page can be unlocked through VIP from the Item Shop. Items placed on this page become locked when VIP expires, and can only be retrieved again by reactivating VIP.
